Movie Review: Shutter Island

It is difficult to make a review on Shutter Island without spoiling the movie. It is a very different type of movie, even for a director like Martin Scorsese. From the beginning of the movie, you will be introduced to many different paths of storyline; all will eventually end up filling out one for another. Scorsese, who has been gloriously directed The Departed, Taxi Driver, Casino, Goodfellas, and Gangs of New York, definitely bring things movie to his level of directing. Once again, Leonardo DiCaprio joins Scorsese to work in this movie, marking the fourth time they work together in a movie.
The film’s cinematography is made in the level of Scorsese’s movies. The endless darkness adds the suspense of the movie, making you to expect any surprises to come in every act. The claustrophobic feeling is represented by the wall construction which resembles cage to drive the audience crazy.
Compared to other Scorsese’s movie, Shutter Island amazingly has a pretty mild language. You can only hear the F-word few times, much much smaller number to Casino and The Departed. As it has been said before, the story starts with what seems to be unrelated pieces, however, they finally will match up in the end like a rubix cube.
Overall, this is definitely a worth watching movie, and it grow on you every time you see it every other time. Do not wait until the DVD comes out. Go and watch it once the cinema in your town plays it.
